Hoodie arrival and Christmas

So I arrived home from Glasgow on Christmas eve and my hoodie had arrived :D
I got the medium size kelly green hoodie with the design on the back :) I'm at size 12 and the hoodie is super baggy on me, so if you haven't ordered yours yet and are wondering about sizes then they are very generous, I love baggy hoodies so I'm glad I chose the medium, but I would say a medium would fit a size 16 well not a 12 like the website suggests.
On the front of the hoodie is my name, role and dates that I am on the programme :)

The next day was christmas and I got a few Disney related gifts :) I asked for mainly money to help me pay for flights and travelling but I still got some bits and bobs off my mum and people who refused to give me money :']

I got a minnie mouse note pad and pen :'], some dollars, brave and 101 dalmations on DVD. I also got a 1000 piece Disney jigsaw which kept me occupied for most of boxing day :) With all the money I got for my birthday, christmas and working, I now have enough for my internal flights and booking hotels which is good :D

157 days to go :)

Catch up :)

So I haven't done a blog since my birthday at the beginning of the month so I though I would do a quick catch up with what's happened over December :)
Just after my birthday I went to see the Lion King musical with my mum in Manchester :D

It was really good and the costumes were amazing :D the little boy who played young simba was slightly tone deaf so that kinda messed up the first act for me, but the second act was amazing :'] I spent the rest of that week at home before heading back up to Glasgow for work.
So yeah the next 2 weeks of December i was just up in Glasgow to work as I'd finished uni at the end of November, but I needed the money for Disney :D

On the 17th we had a Disney meet up in Edinburgh :) we met up in Costa and then went to the Christmas markets and for some tea :) was nice to meet some more people doing the programme and arrange another night out in Glasgow :']

I also finally sent off my crb form so that's all done now too :D

And that's pretty much it, except for what I have to say in my next post :']

My 20th Birthday

Today is my 20th birthday and my mum threw me a small Minnie Mouse themed buffet party thing for my family :']

A woman from my mums work made this minnie mouse balloon for me with a tail and hands (which you can't see all that well), and my mum made me a minnie mouse themed cake and cupcakes.
My grandparents came over and my aunty, godmother and a family friend. Was nice to see everyone cause I've not seen most of them since before summer, everyone was asking me about Disney and what my work will be over there :']
Cannot believe I'm 20 though... it's rather scary that I'm not a teenager anymore.

Glasgow Meet Up

Last night was the first meet up for the Disney program in Glasgow :) we met in wetherspoons, it was ridiculously busy but somehow I managed to find people, saying the word Disney makes it much easier to know if it’s who you’re looking for or not :’]
I thought it would be really awkward considering I’ve never really met anyone in real life except from Lucy at the final interviews and a girl called Rachel who I met in my group interview, but the conversation seemed to flow pretty well, we all had to crowd around this small table because it was so busy :’] We stayed there until about 10, when we headed off to Sauchiehall street to meet at the wetherspoons there because we thought it might be a bit quieter, which it was :) we managed to get two tables there and everyone could sit down which was handy, plus the drinks at that wetherspoons were like half the price :D Myself, Lucy, Rachel and Caroline got a taxi there cause we couldn’t be bothered walking in the cold, so by the time everyone else arrived we’d already had 2 pitchers between us :’] But yeah later on some of us (who didn’t have to go home, or meet people) headed off to Propaganda at ABC for some dancing :D it was a really fun night, everyone was really lovely and being able to chat on about disney without feeling like I was annoying people was good :’] I drank sooooo much more than I planned though, woke up this morning still drunk so work today was fun, but I made it through somehow :’] Looking forward to more Glasgow meet ups, plus meeting everyone in Manchester over christmas :)

My role :)

Okay so my role in the show will be Operations, which was my first choice :)
My role will include:

  • working in one of our theme parks with any one of the "rides" or theatre shows
  • loading and unloading Guests from an attraction
  • operating sophisticated ride systems
  • memorizing and delivering lengthy narrations on a microphone to large groups
  • handling the evacuation of an attraction when necessary
  • monitoring Guest flow and providing a safe Guest experience
  • assisting with audience control, including during parades
  • cleaning areas surrounding attractions/main entrance
  • working with FASTPASS®, the ticketing distribution system that confirms attraction ride times
  • greeting all Guests who enter the park and validating their tickets
  • operating turnstile areas
  • selling various ticket media at our water parks, Downtown Disney, or Disney's Wide World of Sports
  • using computerized ticketing systems
  • strong knowledge of Walt Disney World Resort ticket media
  • cash handling - both manual and using computerized registers
  • assisting with audience control, including during parades
  • standing for extended periods
  • working outdoors
I won't find out which park or area I'm working in or on until I get to traditions, I'm hoping I am placed on a ride rather than main gate but I'm literally up for anything :)

Tuesday 13 November 2012

Booked my first flights :)

It feels a lot more real now that I have booked my flights out there, still have so much to sort out, but this was the biggest step and the biggest expense so it's nice to have that out of the way and booked. There's loads of us on the 11am flight from Manchester so we have officially dubbed it the party plane :) I'm also travelling with 3 other girls to LA and NY and we're flying back on the same flight from JFK :)
Also found out the other day that we can probably use our passes to main gate Disneyland in California which would be great and we're thinking of going there for 3/4 days :)

202 days to go :Dimage

Sunday 11 November 2012

It's becoming a bit more real :)

I am going to book my flights on Monday :D and I have my travel plans sorted now (pretty much) I have posted them before but I will write it down here too :)

4th June - Start work at Disney :D
9th August - Finish work at Disney :( Check into Disney hotel :D
12th August - Leave Orlando :( Fly to LA :D
19th August - Leave LA, fly to New York :D :D :D
26th August - Leave America :( Fly to Manchester :( See my family :D

I am so excited, can't wait to get everything booked now, booking the internal flights and accommodation after christmas :)

Step by Step guide

Just received my step by step guide from yummy jobs telling us about the CRB check, visa application, flight information, insurance information and other fee's. So much to sort out, have paid for my CRB so just have to wait for the application form to arrive in the post and then send that off to them, and going to book my flights as soon as I can so that's all done too, will then book my internal flights and accommodation after Christmas :)

Friday 9 November 2012

Disney ICP Challenge :)

How did you find out about the programme?
I found out about the programme from a friends facebook page, I saw all his pictures popping up on my news feed when he was over there this summer and I was very very jealous, so when he got back I asked him about it and how he had done it and he gave me the link to Yummy Jobs :D
When did you apply for the programme?

I applied for the programme on the 28th August 2012 :)
What did you enjoy the most about the application process?

I enjoyed going to the interviews, meeting people who love Disney just as much as I do and getting to know them was really fun, also meeting the interviewers themselves, the team from Yummy Jobs who were all lovely, and then the guys from Disney world which made me SO excited :’]
What did you find the most difficult about the application process?

Without a doubt the hardest part about the process is the waiting, it is seriously horrible not knowing if you’ve done well enough to get through to the next stage and sitting over thinking every little thing until you get your email. And then when you get your email, you get a mini heart attack and just feel so ridiculously sick, but when it’s good news it makes you feel amazing.
How successful were you with your application?

Very :D I got through and am going to work at Walt Disney World in the summer, I also got my first choice of position which I was ridiculously happy about.
What was your ideal start date?

There was only a choice of 2 start dates for this years programme and I was happy with either, I got June 3rd which is the first one, I’m happy cause I don’t have to see other people’s photos of being at Disney while I’m still at home waiting to go :’]
What was your preferred position?

Operations :) which is like working either in attractions or on the main gate, hoping I get attractions so I can work on a ride, but either way I’m happy, I mean I’ll be at Disney, how could I not be happy haha.
What 3 things do you wish to achieve during your programme?
  1. I want to make some new friends, people from the UK but also people from other cultures so I can become more culturally aware.
  2. I want to experience as much as possible, do everything I can, get involved with as much as possible, visit Walmart :’]
  3. And I want to have the best summer ever, I have never been to America so this will be an amazing summer to begin with but I want to make it even better :)
What 3 things are you least looking forward to/think you might dislike about your program?
  1.  Being away from family, I’m at university in Glasgow so I’m used to being away for like 6 weeks or so, but I know that my family are not too far away if something happens, my dad works in Glasgow in the week so he can always come and help me if I need him to, where as in America they can’t really just come and get me :’]
  2. Living in another country, Even though I always think as America and England being pretty similar, I know that there’s going to be more of a difference than I think, it will be a complete culture shock, but I think I will love it at the same time.
  3. Sharing a room with another person, I’m good at sharing a flat with people, but I haven’t shared a room since I was like 10, apart from like sharing a tent when I went to Morocco and was helping at brownie camp. Just hope I get on with them fine… and they don’t smell haha
What do you plan to do after your program?
I plan on staying in a Disney hotel for 3 nights using my cast member discount, then heading off to LA for a week and then New York for a week before I go home, so I can experience a bit more of America and see some of the famous sites I’ve always wanted to visit :) I don’t plan on bringing any money home with me really haha

Thursday 8 November 2012

Nearly have my travel plans sorted :)

And it isn't costing half as much as I thought it would, spending 3 nights in a Disney hotel after the programme which I will book while I'm there, then flying out to LA for a week and going to see the warner bros studios and the walk of fame and maybe head over to the Disney there for a day :) Then fly over to New York for a week, want to see as much as I can while I'm there, and maybe head to six flags for the day if I can afford it :'] The fly back to the UK on the 26th August, it's going to be such a good summer :D

Application 2013

I started the application process in August 2012, when I submitted my application to Yummy Jobs, they are the company that deals with applications for Disney in the UK, I just had to send in my CV, I attached a paragraph to my normal CV about my love for Disney to try and make it more appropriate. It must have worked because on the closing date for applications in September I received an email from Yummy Jobs saying that I had been successful and had gotten through to the first stage of interviews.

Group Interview

My group interview was held in Edinburgh, I go to university in Glasgow so had a reasonable distance to travel but not too far. The interview began at 9am, and we had to arrive at 8:45am. On the interview day I awoke at 6:15am after about 2 hours sleep (SO TIRED) the dress code was smart casual I wore a pink lace design peter pan collared top from Topshop, a black peplum skirt also from Topshop, some thick black tights and some dolly shoes, I kept my make up reasonably natural cooling down my normal eye make up a bit. I got the 7:11 train to Edinburgh Park and got to Edinburgh Napier University (where the interview was being held) at 8:44am after getting very lost. We had to sign in and got given a student status form which we would need to get filled in if we got through to the next stage. The presentation began at 9am and was about all the different roles and accommodation available on the programme, there was also a small quiz at the beginning where they gave out some chocolate, it's just an ice breaker to help break a bit of the tension though :) People who were late, were really obvious and it really didn't look very good so I was glad I arrived on time. After the presentation we were told which interview slot we were in, I was in the 11:20 interview with the girls, before my interview I made my way down to the cafe downstairs where I sat with some other girls who were also waiting, they were all really lovely and chatting to them definitely calmed my nerves, at 11:00 another girl and myself made our way towards the interview rooms. The interview itself was quite relaxed, it was a group interview so you did have to fight to be heard, but it shows that you can bounce off others and get on with people too. They asked general questions like, "Why do you want to do this?", "What do you think of the cultural aspect?" and "What could you bring from the UK?", there were some questions they went round the group to get everyone's answer like "Which Disney character do you think you're most like and why?" I chose Alice from Alice in Wonderland, because she is determined and adventurous. I had no idea how the interview went afterwards, but as our interview was on the Thursday we only had to wait 1 day to find out.
On Friday at 6:20pm after a day of stressing out I got my email and I had gotten through to the final interviews :D :D

Final Interview

My final interview was held in Manchester, I am originally from there so on the Sunday I went home to see my family and get prepared for my interview on the Wednesday. The interview day started at 9am, with the presentation beginning at 9:30am. On the day I got up at 6:30am, the dress code was smart business wear, I wore the same skirt and tights as in my group interview but wore it with a long sleeved geometric print blouse and a black fitted blazer. I got the train to Oxford road where I met 3 girls who were going to the interview too, they were all really friendly and we got a taxi together to the campus, we got there at 8:30am, so really early, but it's good to be early :'] we went and queued up outside the presentation room, at 9 we started to enter the room, as we went in we gave in some of the forms they'd asked us to bring, the application form, student status and uni form and our passport copy. The presentation was given by 3 people from the Disney company, Janet, Jim and Sue, and it lasted about an hour, there was more detailed information and new videos we hadn't seen about accommodation and life in general on the Disney programme. Again at the end of the presentation we were given our interview times, my interview was at 12 so we went to the cafeteria thing at the uni and sat there and chatted and I had some breakfast/lunch, at 11:30 me and another girl made our way to the first room, at about 11:50 we got called into this room three at a time to check all the documents we had given in were correct, about 2 minutes after I got out of this room Becky from yummy jobs called the same 3 of us again and took us up to wait outside our interview room, we were told we were going to interview with Jim, which I was really happy about as he seemed really lovely and he is one of the main guys at Epcot in charge of like 600 cast members. We were being interviewed individually and one of the other girls was before me, the 10 minute wait before my interview seemed like the longest 10 minutes ever, I swear I was on the brink of a panic attack, luckily the minute I entered the interview room I calmed down and just started having a lovely chat with Jim and laughing a lot, the interview was more of a chat than an interview, he asked me about the roles I had chosen to do and why I wanted to do them, he said he was "impressed with my enthusiasm for attractions" which I thought was a good sign, he then asked me have I ever had to deal with an angry customer, I said truthfully that I hadn't but I had dealt with complaints before so I just told him how I would deal with that. We then had a chat about travel as I have never been to America, so I told him I have been to other places and told him about my world challenge trip to Morocco. And that was pretty much the end of my interview :)

I will find out by the 9th November if I have gotten through to the programme of not so fingers crossed, I really hope I get through, if not I will be applying again next year for sure :']
